We work with boys & girls of all abilities from ages 6 to 16 with our focus for the sessions on ball mastery and development of technique. Dan Seymour

UEFA B License

Dan has been coaching for 20 years, working at grassroots, academy and senior level. Dan began coaching at 16. With a passion and quest for knowledge, he immediately achieved his FA Level 1, followed by the FA level 2 at 17. He began the UEFA ‘B’ coaching license at 18, completing this award at 19. Dan also completed the FA Youth Coaching Award (with youth modules 1-3). Dan’s enthusiasm from a young age, saw him create Shield Academy in 2007 (at 19 years old). Dan grew this from 1 team to 25, and is still enjoying watching it flourish. Dan has worked within 2 Premier League (category 1) academies and 1 league 1 academy. He has also worked at first team level within non-league as a first team coach. Dan loves coaching and is passionate about the technical development of individuals. Dan is a lifelong Leyton Orient fan, and regularly attends their games.

Julian Charles

UEFA A License

Julian's playing career as centre forward spans over 24 years in both a semi-professional and professional capacity making nearly 600 appearances. He has also played international football for St Vincent & the Grenadines earning several caps playing in the 2000 World Cup qualifies.

Julian began his coaching career in 2002 and has held a number of roles including spells in the academy at Dagenham & Redbridge, Ipswich, Turkish super league side Goztepe and Queens Park Rangers

Julian was also appointed head coach of EFL team Crawley Town U23,s on September 12 2018.

Charlie Leask

UEFA C License

Charlie is an extremely passionate grassroots coach with over 6 years coaching experience with various teams around East London and Essex. After being at different clubs in the area he has finally found home at Shield Academy looking after U8 and 12s under the guidance of Dan Seymour and Julian Charles. As a keen amateur footballer Charlie made it to the lower levels of semi-professional in the Northern Alliance with Carlisle City. His passion is watching players and teams grow technically and socially and recognises the huge positive impact team sports have on young peoples lives.
